Patch 13.05 at a glance

Valorant Patch 13.05 shipped on September 1, 2026. It is a systems and integrity patch, not a balance patch — Riot did not touch a single agent's numbers, weapon prices, or map rotations. What it does deliver is a full pass on the agents' bug backlog (nine agents individually plus three general smoke and audio fixes), the first behavioural-penalty rollout for stream sniping and instalock tools, a preview of the Agent Gear system rework coming in 13.06, and the Champions Shanghai Pick'Ems opening date. Below is every change the patch actually made.

No agent, weapon, gear or map balance changes in 13.05. If your queue feels different, it's the bug backlog closing — not a nerf.

Player behaviour: stream sniping and instalock tools now punished

Riot rolled out the first automated penalty system aimed specifically at stream sniping and third-party instalock tools. First-offence penalties are temporary competitive queue bans that escalate on repeat: the escalation ladder ends at a permanent Riot-account ban for persistent offenders. Detection runs on the same infrastructure as the existing anti-cheat pipeline and does not require a player report to trigger. The change is live for all regions from September 1.

Progression: Agent Gear system moving to per-agent playtime (13.06)

13.05 announces, but does not yet ship, a rework of the Agent Gear system. Starting with Patch 13.06 on September 22, gear unlocks tied to universal account progression will be replaced by per-agent playtime — you unlock gear for the specific agent you play. Kingdom Credits remain the second currency required to purchase unlocked pieces, and any gear already unlocked on the current system stays yours. Players sitting on a partial Agent Gear track this patch cycle should finish it before 13.06 to lock in progression under the old rules.

Esports: Champions Shanghai Pick'Ems opens September 10

The Champions Shanghai Group Stage Pick'Ems opens on September 10, both in-client and on the web. Predictions stay open until September 24, and Riot will run separate Playoff Pick'Ems after Group Stage concludes. This is a season-standard rollout — no new prizing mechanics or scoring tweaks compared to Champions 2025.

Agent bug fixes: nine agents individually

General agent fixes (all agents)

  • Ultimate voice lines: the ultimate cast voice line is no longer audible from the enemy perspective if the caster dies immediately after activating the ultimate. Ranked impact — a real information leak for casters like Fade, Sova and Reyna is closed; enemies can no longer pre-position off an audio cue they weren't supposed to hear.
  • Combat Report: the report now correctly logs abilities that don't apply a Blind effect. Ranked impact — score-screen post-round becomes reliable again for analysing trade timings.
  • Smoke dissipation: smokes from Astra, Brimstone, Clove, Miks and Omen no longer block flashes for a fraction of a second after visually dissipating. Ranked impact — the flash timing window on smoke pushes is honest again; controllers lose a small unintentional defensive perk.

Chamber

Headhunter no longer causes framerate drops on equip, aim or fire. This was the loudest complaint against Chamber since the mid-August performance regression — controllers on 144 Hz monitors were losing 30 to 40 fps on every Headhunter action. Ranked impact — Chamber is playable on high-refresh setups again, expect his pick rate to climb 3 to 5 points in Immortal+ this weekend.

Cypher

  • Trapwire: the debuff applied to trapped enemies now clears when it should, instead of persisting on the target's HUD.
  • Cyber Cage: no longer blocks flashes in the same fractional-second window as the general smoke fix above.

Ranked impact — Cypher trap value is unchanged, but calling out a trapped enemy is now cleaner because the debuff no longer stays on their screen after the wire pop.

Deadlock

GravNet no longer produces the unintended VFX flash on activation. Ranked impact — Deadlock initiators lose a small silhouette tell that some flex players had learned to time push cadence off.

Fade

Seize now correctly displays its danger indicator on Lotus. This was a Lotus-specific bug that let Fade land Seize in the A Main corridor without warning enemies. Ranked impact — the free info play is closed; Fade on Lotus attack loses a small A-execute enabler.

KAY/O

NULL/cmd no longer causes per-pulse framerate drops. This was a growing complaint since KAY/O's June rework — the ultimate was tanking frames on Nvidia cards specifically during suppression pulses. Ranked impact — KAY/O ultimate uptime is smoother for controllers who were losing accuracy during the exact seconds they needed to duel.

Omen

Dark Cover no longer obscures vision after visually dissipating (in addition to the general smoke fix). Ranked impact — the timing window on Omen smoke lifts becomes predictable again.

Sage

Healing Orb tooltip now displays correctly. A cosmetic-only fix, but a persistent one — the tooltip had been missing intermittently since Patch 12.09. Ranked impact — none.

Waylay

  • Saturate: no longer applies Hinder through vision blockers.
  • Refract: the ability no longer snapshots dynamic objects (spike, dropped weapons, deployables) that were near the caster at cast time.
  • Saturate: no longer applies Hinder to intangible agents (mid-teleport, Reyna dismissed, Yoru ultimate).

Ranked impact — Waylay's zone control loses a stack of unintended interactions but keeps every intended one. Expect no measurable win-rate delta.

Cosmetics: sound sprays reworked

Sound sprays received a rework of their audio attenuation model. The sound is now only audible to players within a small radius of the spray, instead of broadcasting across the map. Ranked impact — sound sprays become a team-communication toy (call plays, comms replacement in solo queue) instead of a distraction weapon. No competitive-integrity concerns remain around them.

PC-only updates

  • Range Practice mode: new bot-count options — 10, 5 or 1 bot. Default changed from 10 to 5 bots.
  • VALORANT Points shop: the Close button now works after purchasing points (the popup had been trapping some players on Windows 11 24H2 builds).

What isn't in this patch

For clarity, since a September patch usually carries balance changes: 13.05 has zero agent balance changes, zero weapon or gear price changes, and zero map pool rotation changes. The Abyss-in/Breeze-out pool from Patch 13.04 stands. If you were expecting a Phoenix follow-up or a Waylay balance touch, the next window is Patch 13.06 on September 22.

How this affects your climb

None of the bug fixes reshuffle the meta, but two are practical wins on ladder: the Chamber framerate fix genuinely brings Chamber back for high-refresh players who had shelved him, and the ultimate voice-line leak fix removes a small tell that solo-queue enemies had been abusing when pushing on caster deaths. If you were struggling with either, you'll feel the difference this weekend.

Players farming rank on the current patch can shortcut the grind — our Valorant rank boost matches you with a booster who has already learned the 13.05 quirks and can push RR under the new behaviour rules.
