Premier or Ranked: the real Act 4 matchup
Act 4 went live on June 23 with Patch 13.00: Summit joins the competitive rotation, Riot tweaked RR calculations for players on winning streaks, and Premier Stage V26A4 kicked off on July 1. Ranked in 2026: a cleaner climb than before
The classic competitive queue is still the benchmark for individual skill, and Act 4 makes it noticeably healthier:
- Recalibrated RR: win more than you lose and you climb faster. Riot is directly targeting that stuck feeling, especially at Immortal+
- Tighter lobbies: average team rank is now held within one sub-tier. No more Diamond duo lost in a Gold lobby
- Risk-free Summit: for two weeks, losses on the new map cost 50% less RR while wins pay out in full. Perfect for learning it in ranked
- Total freedom: solo, duo or full stack, you queue whenever you want, zero commitment
Premier: the structure of a real team
Premier is the waiting room of the pro circuit: a locked roster, matches at fixed times and an actual playoff race. Stage V26A4 has been running since July 1 and the format is simple:
- 600 Premier Score qualifies you for the August 16 playoffs; anything above mostly improves your seeding
- Single-elimination Bo1 playoffs: one loss and you are out, a kind of pressure Ranked never simulates
- Map pick & ban in tournament games: you learn prep, anti-strats and how a team map pool works
- Division promotion for champions: winning your playoffs moves you up a division next Stage; Contender and Invite divisions play their playoffs across two days (August 15-16)

Which one actually makes you better?
Coach answer: both, for different reasons. Ranked gives you volume: duels, clutches, chaotic rounds where your aim and reflexes work non-stop. Premier gives you context: rehearsed executes, an IGL, VOD reviews that look like what serious teams do. If you have been hardstuck for two acts, the problem is usually no longer mechanical but decisional, and only a team environment fixes that.
