Riot has revealed the League of Legends patch 26.20 preview, scheduled for Wednesday, October 7, 2026. It's officially the final patch before Worlds 2026: Riot is happy with the playoff meta and is only making targeted tweaks to protect the Solo Queue experience. Eleven champions go up, five go down and three key items change. All numbers below come from the preview posted by Riot Phroxzon (lead gameplay designer) and are provisional until the official patch notes drop.
Patch 26.20 at a glance
Three themes stand out. First, bot lane: Lucian and Vayne get stronger while Ashe and Yunara, the backbone of the dominant duos, get trimmed. Second, stale pro-play picks — Ambessa, Cassiopeia and K'Sante — take direct nerfs. Third, items: Experimental Hexplate loses value on ranged champions (goodbye, ultra-durable top-lane Vayne), and Hextech Rocketbelt becomes a true "go in" button instead of a spell-spam item.
Patch 26.20 champion buffs
- Diana — W shield bonus health ratio: 11% ⇒ 14%
- Kennen — E bonus attack speed: 40–80% ⇒ 50–90%
- Kindred — E no longer targets small monsters · W monster damage modifier: 150% ⇒ 165% · E slow duration: 1 s ⇒ 1.5 s
- Lillia — R sleep duration: 2.5 s (all ranks) ⇒ 2.5/2.75/3 s
- Lucian — Attack damage growth: 2.5 ⇒ 2.9 per level
- Mordekaiser — R cooldown: 140/120/100 s ⇒ 120/110/100 s · Q scaling (levels 10–20): +5 ⇒ +7 per level
- Neeko — E base damage: 70–210 ⇒ 80–220 (+65% AP) · E empowered root: 1.8–3 s ⇒ 2–3 s
- Smolder — Q passive bonus: 25–55% (+0–9% with Infinity Edge) ⇒ 25–60% (+0–10.5%) · E passive bonus: 8–12.8% (+0–1.44%) ⇒ 8–14% (+0–1.8%) · R self-healing: 100–170 (+50% bonus AD) (+75% AP) ⇒ 100–250 (+75% bonus AD) (+75% AP)
- Swain — Base magic resist: 31 ⇒ 34 · Base armor: 25 ⇒ 23 · W damage: 70–210 ⇒ 70–250 (+60% AP) · W cooldown: 22–18 s ⇒ 20–16 s
- Tahm Kench — Q base healing: 10–25 ⇒ 10–50
- Vayne — Health regen per 5 s: 4 (+0.5/level) ⇒ 5.5 (+0.4/level) · Q mana cost: 46–30 ⇒ 30 (all ranks)

The Lucian buff matters most for ranked: after the enchanter nerfs (Milio especially) and the 26.19 support laning changes, his early kill threat dropped hard. Vayne bot gets more regen and a flat 30-mana Q, which finally softens her laning phase. In the jungle, Diana (tanky builds), Kindred and Lillia all get meaningful help, and Smolder is buffed specifically for crit builds.
Patch 26.20 champion nerfs
- Ambessa — Passive damage: 5–30 (+25% bonus AD) ⇒ 5–25 (+20% bonus AD)
- Ashe — Attack damage growth: 3.5 ⇒ 3 per level
- Cassiopeia — Base health: 630 ⇒ 610 · Base mana: 480 ⇒ 450
- K'Sante — W mana cost: 40–60 ⇒ 45–65 · W damage reduction (normal / All Out): 30% / 75% ⇒ 25% / 70%
- Yunara — Q passive & active on-hit damage: 5–25 ⇒ 3–23 (+20% AP) · Bug fix: W slows no longer stack with other slows
Riot is targeting the champions that dominate competitive play: Ambessa, Cassiopeia (whose last nerf missed pro play) and K'Sante, whose W now absorbs less. Ashe joins the list because the Hurricane nerf alone would miss many of her builds, and Yunara loses some level-one strength — combined with the Hurricane nerf, Riot admits the hit will be noticeable.
Items: Hexplate, Runaan's Hurricane and Rocketbelt
- Experimental Hexplate — Ranged effectiveness: 70% (35% attack speed, 14% move speed) ⇒ 50% (25% attack speed, 10% move speed)
- Runaan's Hurricane — AD ratio per bolt: 65% ⇒ 60%
- Hextech Rocketbelt — Ability haste: 20 ⇒ 10 · Active damage: 100 (+10% AP) ⇒ 135 (+15% AP)
Hextech Rocketbelt is the biggest structural change: with 10 ability haste instead of 20, mages can't chain spells as freely, but the active hits much harder. For Annie or Neeko, who buy it to engage, the item stays neutral or even improves; for control mages, Cosmic Drive becomes a serious option again.
Pulled from the patch: Varus and Sylas
In the updated preview, Riot removed Varus and Sylas from the patch. Varus needs deeper work to give his builds a clear purpose, and the Sylas tweak risked upsetting the balance between his mid and jungle roles, especially with Rocketbelt changing at the same time.
Release date, HEARTSTEEL skins and Worlds 2026
Patch 26.20 is scheduled for October 7, 2026 and will be the version played at Worlds 2026. It also brings the HEARTSTEEL "Live My Life" skin collection, confirmed by Riot. Outside of possible hotfixes, no other major balance changes are expected before the tournament ends — so the ranked meta you see from that date should stay stable for several weeks.
