The next season is almost here. According to Blizzard's official BlizzCon announcement, Overwatch Season 5 kicks off on October 6, 2026 with a new hero, a new map and two big reworks. Here's what it means for your ranked climb.
Season 5 at a glance
- Doctrine (Hero 54): a vampire-inspired Support and ally of Doomfist who wields a scepter, infusions and bat-like drones.
- Sombra leaves the Damage role and becomes a Support, so you'll pick her from the Support queue.
- Roadhog gets a major rework aimed at making him a more team-oriented Tank.
- Watchpoint: Grímsvötn: a new Escort map set in an Icelandic volcano prison.
- Story: the Reign of Talon arc concludes this season.
Doctrine: a Support that reshapes comps
Doctrine was playable in a free Hero Trial from September 12 to 14. His bat drones heal allies while disrupting enemy healing, according to early descriptions. Blizzard hasn't published a full numbers sheet, so wait for the official patch notes before judging his real power. New heroes are often poorly countered in the first days, which rewards players who master them early.
Support Sombra and Roadhog: what we know
Per the BlizzCon preview relayed by the press, Support Sombra reportedly gets Hotfix (instant healing with a healing reserve) and Cyberspace (a zone that heals allies and reduces enemy healing and damage). These values are provisional and may change before launch. For Roadhog, the stated goal is to address his one-shot Chain Hook combo, alongside a new projectile-absorbing ability.

Console: crossplay, aim assist and ranked
Overwatch supports crossplay across PC, PS5 and Xbox. Heroes like Doctrine or Support Sombra demand precise aim, so on controller tune your sensitivity and aim assist settings before you queue Competitive. New heroes generally launch on every platform at the same time.
Starting the season strong in ranked
The first weeks of a season give the best effort-to-progress ratio: ranks reshuffle and games are more open. If you're short on time or want to lock in your rank, our team can help with an Overwatch boost or personalized coaching at ElevateBoost.
