Overwatch Competitive Points, or CP, are the currency you earn from ranked matches and spend on weapon variants — Golden, Jade, Galactic, and the 2026 seasonal Crimson Wolf skins. The system has been rewritten twice in three years, and most guides online still quote outdated numbers. This is what CP actually look like in Season 4 (August 2026), how many you get per win, the milestone bonuses most players ignore, and how long it really takes to farm a weapon.
How Overwatch Competitive Points are earned in 2026
The base rate has stayed the same since Season 9: 10 CP per Competitive win, 5 per draw, 0 per loss. That number does not scale with your rank — a Bronze 5 win and a Champion win pay out the same 10 CP. Your rank changes how quickly you climb, not what you take home.
On top of that base rate, every match feeds a hidden progression bar. Wins add 3 points, draws and losses add 1 point. Every time the bar reaches 30 points, you get a 100 CP bonus. The bar caps at 30 completed rounds per season, so the maximum bonus is 3,000 CP — earned over roughly 300 wins.
Competitive Play Stadium pays more per match: 20 CP per win, twice the standard rate. Stadium and standard queue share the same CP wallet, so time spent in Stadium counts toward the same weapon.
Competitive Drives: the biggest CP source you can actively farm
Competitive Drives are limited-time weekend events introduced with Season 12 of Overwatch 1's CP economy and carried forward. During a Drive weekend, you earn Drive Score from ranked matches and clear checkpoints for chunky CP payouts.
- 500 Drive Score → 500 CP
- 1,000 Drive Score → Signature reward
- 1,600 Drive Score → 1,000 CP
- 2,200 Drive Score → upgraded Signature
- 3,000 Drive Score → 1,500 CP
- 4,000 Drive Score → upgraded Animated Signature
A single Drive weekend cleared to the last checkpoint hands out 3,000 CP — exactly the price of one weapon variant. Blizzard runs several Drives per season. Missing them is the number one reason players think Golden weapons "take forever" to farm.
Weapon variant costs — every skin is 3,000 CP
Blizzard flattened the price of every cosmetic weapon in the CP shop to 3,000 CP each. Golden, Jade, Galactic, and the 2026 seasonal Crimson Wolf variants all cost the same. Only the currency they accept differs:
- Current season variant (Crimson Wolf in 2026): 3,000 Competitive Points
- Previous years' variants (Golden, Jade, Galactic): 3,000 Legacy Competitive Points
- Currencies do not mix: you cannot pay a variant with a blend of CP and Legacy CP
Legacy Competitive Points: what happens to unspent CP
At the end of every yearly competitive season, whatever CP you have left converts 1-for-1 into Legacy Competitive Points. Legacy CP work exactly like regular CP with one catch: they can only buy weapon variants from prior years. If you save aggressively and skip the current season's variant, you build a Legacy CP bank for older Golden and Jade skins on heroes released years ago.
End-of-season rank rewards: the old CP payout is gone
Before Season 9, the game gave you a lump-sum CP payout at the end of each season based on your final tier — up to 1,750 CP for Grandmaster in the old system. That payout no longer exists. Since Season 9, end-of-season rewards are limited to a Player Title for anyone who finished Gold or higher, plus the progression-bar CP you already accumulated during play. Rank tier no longer affects your paycheck.
How long does it take to get one weapon variant?
With only base CP (10 per win, 55% win rate on 20 games a week): about 27 weeks, or the length of a full yearly season.
Same activity plus the milestone bonus fully cleared: about 21 weeks.
Same activity, all four Competitive Drives cleared in a season: about 14 weeks.
Same activity, plus every Drive, plus splitting time in Stadium (20 CP per win): about 10 weeks.

Fastest legit ways to farm CP in Season 4
1. Never skip a Competitive Drive
A Drive weekend cleared to the final checkpoint is worth 3,000 CP — a full weapon variant. Miss two Drives in a season and you have thrown away 6,000 CP, which no amount of grinding will recover.
2. Prioritise wins over volume
The milestone bar rewards wins triple (3 points per win vs 1 per loss). A 55% win-rate player fills the bar 65% faster than a 50% win-rate player, even though only 10% more of their matches end in victory. If you are on tilt, log off. Loss streaks are almost free of CP.
3. Split queue time with Stadium
Stadium pays 20 CP per win — double the standard rate. If Stadium fits your schedule (matches are longer but pay more per hour of playtime), rotating in a few Stadium games per session accelerates the bar.
4. Do not spend CP mid-season on Legacy variants
Current-season Crimson Wolf variants cost regular CP. Older Golden/Jade weapons cost Legacy CP, which you only get at season end. Buying a Golden weapon mid-season means you paid regular CP into a system that would have converted for free later.
Do I get CP for each role separately?
No. Since role queue and open queue were unified into one CP wallet in the Overwatch 2 relaunch, every role feeds the same balance. Tank, Damage, and Support wins all add to the same 3,000 CP goal.
Can I lose CP?
No. CP are one-way — you can only earn them, never lose them for a loss, decay, or an account penalty. Losing matches only costs you rank, not currency.
Are there CP promo codes or shop bundles?
No. Blizzard does not sell CP, and no legitimate code hands out CP outside of what you earn from Competitive matches and Drives. Any site offering "free CP" or "CP top-ups" is running an account-theft scam.
If you are chasing a specific weapon skin before a season ends and cannot dedicate the hours, a professional Overwatch rank boost is a way to bank wins in far less time than solo queue while keeping your account safe — every match is played by a verified booster, never by a bot.
